Project: Marshall Amp
by El Rando
Worklog: Here
"I have 'fond' memories of my brother's Marshall amp blasting me into next week on a daily basis as he proceeded to strum out various Iron Maiden songs in his bedroom which was next to mine. It's a strange experience finding you know every word and every note of songs that you actually hate."
However, while it's already given me a few nasty flashbacks, you have to give credit where it's due and Project: Marshall Amp is shaping up to be a fantasic scratch build. To be honest we haven't seen many mods like this at all so we'll definitely be monitoring El Rando's project log to see how it progresses. Either way, despite it's relatively new entry and low profile until now, we feel Project: Marshall Amp is a worthy contender in this month's line up.
Above we can see the unique design El Rando has chosen with the motherboard orientated much like it would be in any case. On the right is a classic Marshall amp. This could be good! It looks like there will be plenty of cooling on hand too with four 120mm fans.
Work started quickly and here we can see El Rando hard at it with one of the 1.4mm aluminium side panels. We take it that's not the bathroom you're doing a bit of welding in, is it El Rando? Looks impressive anyway! Some other images in his log show that El Rando is a bit of a welding expert too.
The edges are remarkably smooth despite being welded together. Project: Marshall Amp is off to a very good start. Above we can also see that it's quite a dinky case, well compared to a fairly large Marshall amp it is anyway. Luckily a Zotac nForce 630-itx WiFi motherboard is on hand to squeeze in there.
Moving along rapidly and we can now see the four 120mm fans mounted along with their venting holes cut neatly in the panel. The I/O panel is also in position as are some aesthetic control knobs. With El Rando off to Uni in August there's a tight deadline to meet to get the project done in time too so good luck!
